Fans in stitches as commentator calls Bayern Munich defender 'Upamaguire' during disasterclass against Man City | The Sun
FANS were left in stitches after a commentator called Dayot Upamecano “Upamaguire” – in a hilarious reference to Manchester United’s calamity captain.
Upamecano, 24, was being hailed as one of world football’s top defenders before Bayern Munich’s Champions League tie against Man City.
The Frenchman turned in a disasterclass in the first leg as City triumphed 3-0.
And his performance in last night’s second leg, a 1-1 draw, was just as bad.
Upamecano struggled to deal with Erling Haaland’s physicality from the first whistle.
He received a straight red card for fouling the striker in the box, only to be saved by a tight VAR call showing the City star to be marginally offside.

And Upamecano literally slipped up later as his weak attempt to tackle Haaland saw the Norwegian bag yet another goal for himself.
But one commentator could not resist comparing Upamecano to Man Utd’s error-prone ace Maguire with a quip that left fans in stitches.
As Upamecano played the ball with just five minutes left, the Arabian commentator said: “Upamaguire.”
Supporters found the incident absolutely hilarious, with many hailing the commentator’s cheeky name.

Upamecano is in his second season at Bayern, joining from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £37million.
He has since played 77 times and won last term’s Bundesliga.
Upamecano has also become a regular for France, winning 14 caps since his debut in 2020.
And with Raphael Varane now retiring, he hopes to become Didier Deschamps’ first choice at the back.
