Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the Nets: report – The Denver Post

Star guard Kyrie Irving has requested a trade before the February 9 deadline, according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Irving will be an unrestricted free agent following this season. He is playing out the final year of the four-year $136 million deal he signed when he joined the Nets after he and the team could not reach an agreement this offseason. That standoff between fellow star Kevin Durant and the team, in which Durant issued and later rescinded a trade request.

Irving has had a tumultuous stay in Brooklyn. He was not available to play for large stretches of the 2021-22 season due to his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid-19, and was suspended for several games earlier this season after posting portions of an antisemitic documentary.

This is a developing story. Check back for further details.
