Man Utd join Arsenal in transfer race for Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti as Solskjaer looks to overhaul defence

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly lining up a move for Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti.

Mundo Deportivo claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking at the World Cup winner after being left frustrated in his search for a new defender.

Umtiti found himself frozen out of Barcelona’s first team last season.

And with Clement Lenglet impressing alongside Gerard Pique, there is a big possibility that Umtiti will continue to be left on the Nou Camp bench next term.

Barcelona are also understood to be rivalling Juventus for Ajax ace Matthijs de Ligt.

And his arrival in Spain would surely signal the end of Umtiti’s Catalan adventure.

United are apparently willing to pay mega-bucks to bring the ace to Old Trafford.

And Umtiti could fancy his chances helping United climb back up the Premier League, although cash-strapped Arsenal are understood to be keeping tabs on his situation.

Kalidou Koulibaly had been Solskjaer’s first choice for the centre-back role, but Napoli are reluctant to sell.

United had been keen on Leicester’s Harry Maguire, but he is set to join rivals Manchester City.

While a move for Raphael Varane is off after Real Madrid pointed to his £430m release clause.

Solskjaer also faces a battle to keep Victor Lindelof at Old Trafford, with Barcelona making an enquiry earlier this month.
