Mike Francesa’s cold words on Craig Carton taking his WFAN slot

Even in retirement, Mike Francesa’s ego has not shrunk.

The longtime WFAN sports radio talk-show host refused to offer his thoughts on the station’s new go-to guy in the afternoon, convicted felon Craig Carton. Francesa came off bitter, ridiculously comparing himself to NFL legends

“I will not comment on him,” Francesa told Newsday. “I never have, I never will. I don’t have any comment. That’s their decision. Fine, that’s it. Move on, that’s it. We’ll see what happens.”

The two have an icy relationship, dating back to Carton’s frequent jabs at Francesa when he hosted the morning show. Francesa did talk about WFAN, though, even if he somehow compared himself to Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene. Francesa, 66, retired for the second time in July after more than 30 years at WFAN.

“The station had to move on,” he said. “Whether you’re the Pittsburgh Steelers or whoever you are, you have to move on from Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene and whoever. You have to move on to the next generation.

“That station needs to find some shows and leave them in place and have enough confidence to leave them in place for a period of years.”
