Premier League ANNOUNCE Ronaldo is Man Utd's new No7 after transfer but Cavani also has the famous shirt on website

THE PREMIER LEAGUE claim Cristiano Ronaldo is Manchester United's new No7 on their official website.

But the competition also has Edinson Cavani listed down as United's No7 as speculation begins to rise about his new shirt number.

The Premier League have now added Ronaldo, 36, to Man Utd's squad for the 2021-22 campaign and updated his player page.

The competition have listed the Portuguese forward as United's No7 but are yet to strip Cavani of the shirt in a confusing update.

Man Utd haven't announced Ronaldo's shirt number and Cavani's No7 jersey is still available to buy on the club's website.

And the Premier League may have just not updated Ronaldo's number after reactivating the player's page on their website.

The United icon is set to return to Old Trafford in the coming days, 12 years after leaving the club for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Ronaldo has worn the No7 every season since first joining United in 2003, bar his maiden year at Madrid when he wore the No9.

He was unable to take the No7 when he first arrived at the Bernabeu as club legend Raul was still sporting the iconic jersey.

But Ronaldo's 'CR7' brand has grown significantly since he was given the shirt in Madrid in 2010 and it's hard to imagine him without it.

Cavani, however, is also fond of the No7 after wearing it at Palmero, Napoli and United last term.

The Uruguayan had the No9 at Paris Saint-Germain and famously wears No21 for his country – but neither of those shirts are free at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo could still yet take the free No28 at United, the shirt he wore when he burst onto the scene at Sporting Lisbon nearly 20 years ago.

Lionel Messi has made a similar move at PSG, rejecting the chance to take the No10 off Neymar and picking No30 – his original shirt at Barcelona.
