Since debuting on Netflix back in 2019, After Life has had fans laughing and crying thanks to creator Ricky Gervais’ portrayal of the grieving Tony. After losing his wife Lisa (played by Kerry Godliman) to cancer, Netflix viewers have witnessed Tony battle with his grief and adapt to life without her through his dark wit, brash attitude and heart-wrenching struggles through the first two seasons. Now, season three is on the way and Ricky has confirmed the finishing touches are currently being applied in a major new update on Twitter.

The release date for After Life season three remains under wraps but Ricky took to Twitter to shed some light on when fans may be able to expect the return of the series this week.

Filming commenced earlier this year as Ricky reunited with the likes of Diane Morgan, Joe Wilkinson and Tony Way to bring new episodes to screen amid Covid filming restrictions.

And now it sounds like filming is complete, as Ricky shared a piece of key art from the show ahead of its third season.

‘Locking Picture on #AfterLife3 next week,” he began to his 14.4 million followers.

Providing a rough timeline on production, the comedian went on: “Then it’s a few weeks of grading, dubbing and laying on all the music.

“Oh, then a couple of months translating it into 160 languages.”

Spotting the chance for a tongue in cheek jibe, Ricky added: “If you knew the amount of work I put into stuff you’d respect me more.”

The production update didn’t stop there, however, as the After Life creator also revealed the musical components which will be included.

Ricky added in a separate tweet: “Music includes, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, 10CC, Cat Stevens, Aaron Espe, Kate Rusby, Todd Rundgren, Hammock and lots of original score.”

So given Ricky’s rough idea of a timeline, it sounds like After Life season three could be wrapped up by late-November or December.

With Netflix likely to release soon after, fans may be able to expect After Life season three in early-2021.

But the updates from Ricky didn’t stop there as one fan replied to his tweet to ask about a trailer for the next season.

“Ricky, will we have a trailer or teaser for the 3rd season? I am desperate to know something,” they quizzed.

Again, Ricky provided a positive update on the promo, replying to the fan: “Working on a little teaser at the moment.”

Inevitably, it didn’t take long for other After Life fans and Ricky’s followers to express their excitement at the update – including a few famous faces.

Former Countdown star Carol Vorderman is clearly a fan as she replied: “All the best Ricky…..can’t wait to see it.”

Hollyoaks star Jeremy Edwards also weighed in: “Hardest job in the world.”

While a fan replied: “Can’t wait. Sure to be another (sorry not sorry to be cliched) rollercoaster of emotions and floods of tears but always motivates me to make the most of life and determined to dream big and go for it. Loving your work. Thank you. #afterlife3.”

And a second echoed: “Lost my other half to cancer therefore totally related to After life, brilliant series.

“The guilt of trying to move on was one of the hardest parts as was seen in the series. Thanks for this, looking forward to series 3.”

After Life seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Netflix now.
