All Creatures Great and Small is soon set to return to Channel 5 with a second season and it’s been confirmed Patricia Hodge has joined the cast. The actress will be replacing the late Diana Riggs as Mrs Pumphrey in the period drama. As filming on series two has come to an end, the show has released some images from the upcoming episodes.

All Creatures Great and Small is set in the 1930s and follows the life of James Herriot (played by Nicholas Ralph) as the veterinarian moves to the Yorkshire Dales.

Fresh out of veterinary college, James soon discovers treating the animals is as much about treating their owners.

In the upcoming second series, viewers can expect to see more heart-warming adventures of the young country vet.

Actress Patricia has been revealed as the star taking over the role of Mrs Pumphrey in the new series.

This comes after original actress Diana passed away in September 2020, almost a year after filming for series one had wrapped.

Viewers may recognise Patricia from her roles in Miranda and A Very English Scandal.

New photos from season two show the actress in character as eccentric dog owner Mrs Pumphrey for the first time.

Patricia transformed into the wealthy owner of Pekingnese Tricky Woo as she relaxed in a cart while cradling the canine companion.

Numerous fans praised the series for its re-imagining of the Yorkshire vet Herriot.

Sadly, as a result of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, filming for All Creatures Great and Small’s second series was hit by delays, but production finally began earlier this year.

There’s currently no official release date set for the new series, but series two wrapped filming on location in Yorkshire earlier this Summer.

All Creatures Great and Small series one is available on My5 and Amazon Prime Video.
