Britain’s Got Talent viewers applaud Alesha Dixon’s Black Lives Matter jewellery
Britain’s Got Talent viewers applauded Alesha Dixon’s Black Lives Matter jewellery as the third semi-final got underway.
The ITV show was met with more than 24,000 Ofcom complaints after Diversity performed a powerful routine, addressing George Floyd’s death, as well as police brutality and taking the knee.
Alesha shared her support for fellow judge – and Diversity dancer – Ashley Banjo, rocking three Celine-esque necklaces, with the initials spelling out BLM.
The 41-year-old matched her accessories with a yellow, off-the-shoulder minidress, and a sparkling smile.
And fans watching on from home flocked to Twitter to praise her very clear message.
‘Alesha Dixon wearing a BLM necklace is such a power move and I am HERE for it #BGT #BritainsGotTalent,’ one replied.
‘@AleshaOfficial go Alesha, I’m loving your necklaces tonight. Let’s hope we see a lot more support in the mainstream media. #actionsnotwords #BLM,’ another agreed.
‘Just noticed Alesha’s BLM necklace we love an unapologetic queen #BGT #BritainsGotTalent,’ a Twitter user cheered.
While many more branded her accessory ‘f**king brilliant’.
Alesha recently opened up about Diversity’s stunning performance, revealing she was in ‘floods of tears’ at the emotional routine.
Chatting to the Daily Mirror, she said: ‘On the day of the performance, the camera didn’t actually pan to the judges and I was sitting there in floods of tears.
‘I had this overwhelming feeling of, “Wow I can’t believe I am watching this on BGT.” It felt really important.’
The dance prompted a record number of complaints to Ofcom this year – with the TV watchdog announcing they would not be investigating the scenes.
ITV also stood by Diversity’s performance, with the corporation taking out a full-page advert in national newspapers, with the message: ‘We are changed by what we see. Just as we are changed when we are seen.
‘ITV Stand With Diversity.’
Britain’s Got Talent continues on Saturday, at 8pm, on ITV.
