The personal trainer was dressed in a black vest and grey shorts as he headed into Gold's Gym for his morning workout.
As he crossed the road, he was asked: "So how's Britney feeling about today's conservatorship hearing?"
To which he replied: "Well, I'm just going to the gym making sure I'm enjoying my day, because you have to wear a mask nowadays."
Sam was then asked: "What are your expectations of the hearing? How's it gonna go?"
Avoiding the question, Sam, who has been dating Britney since the pair met on the set of her Slumber Party video, commented: "My expectations are to gain some muscle, go to the gym and just to feel better."
Trying again for a response, the photographer queried: "Do you think you're going to be feeling better after the conservatorship hearing today?
"Well after the workout? I don't know, we'll see," he mused.
"I feel great right now but after the workout I'll see. I'm a little dehydrated right now from yesterday but we'll see."
Sam's confusing responses were revealed as Britney, 39, appeared in court on Wednesday and spoke for the first time in court regarding the conservatorship legal battle with her father.
Showing his support for the pop princess, hours before her appearance Sam wore a 'Free Britney' t-shirt in her honor.
During the hearing, Britney detailed her “abusive” conservatorship and argued her father – after 13 years – should no longer have control over her life.
It comes as:
- Britney says she was "forced to take Lithium" as punishment
- She says her family sent her to a $60k rehab where she was "hurt"
- The singer compares her conservatorship to "sex trafficking"

Jamie, 68, has been in control of the singer’s conservatorship for the past 13 years, which has given him control over her $60million fortune.
In addition to Britney, Jamie also shares son Bryan, 44, and daughter Jamie Lynn, 30, with ex wife Lynne, 66.
The former couple were married from 1976-2002.
The singer made a number of shocking claims during the hearing, including that her family sent her to a $60K rehab at a small Los Angeles home.
Britney claimed the people that ran the rehab center were trying to hurt her, while her dad allegedly "loved it."
She also compared the "abusive" conservatorship to sex trafficking, stating: “In California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking, making anyone work against their will.
"And taking all their possessions away, credit card, cash, phone, passport."
Britney also criticized her family on how they have handled her conservatorship, stating: "My family didn't do a God damn thing.
"Anything I had to do, [my dad] was the one who approved all of it. My whole family did nothing."
Additionally, the Toxic singer shared she wants to have children with her boyfriend Sam.
However, she said her conservatorship prevents her from growing her family.
The star is mom to sons Sean, 15, and Jayden, 14, her children with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Britney said via audio: “I want to get married and have a baby.
“I wanted to take the IUD out and have a baby but conservator won't let me because they don't want me to have a baby.”
