Caleb breaks son Nicky in Emmerdale amid sinister plan
Nicky Milligan (Lewis Cope) was left utterly crushed in Emmerdale after dad Caleb (William Ash) celebrated his birthday by sharing a drink with various other family members, making it clear that he wasn’t welcome.
The nanny, as viewers know, is the secret son of Caleb, who is actually a child of Frank Tate, with the two in cahoots to destroy Kim Tate and take the Home Farm fortune for themselves.
Caleb reckons that Kim had a role to play in his father’s death, while Nicky is less sure but, despite his reservations, he’s been assisting his dad with the plot, seducing Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), who is also a shareholder in the businesses.
Nicky, however, is gay, which was confirmed earlier this week when he met ex-lover Ally (Josh Horrocks) by the side of the road, before spending the night with him.
Caleb is none-the-wiser about his son’s sexuality, though he has picked up on Nicky’s doubts over the plot, cruelly ordering him to ‘grow up’ and stick to the plan by ‘putting a smile’ on Gabby’s face.
The animosity between the two was at an all-time high earlier this week when Nicky voiced his reservations over just how far Caleb is willing to go in order to get what he believes to be rightfully his, and Friday’s (April 28) edition of the ITV soap saw the two’s relationship become even more fraught.
Caleb enjoyed a birthday drink with his family – that is, Cain and Chas Dingle (Jeff Hordley and Lucy Pargeter) – as well as lover Leyla Cavanagh (Roxy Shahidi).
Nicky, meanwhile, was ignored by his dad, with the nanny subsequently collaring him the toilets to discuss the matter, with Caleb once again showing little concern for his son’s feelings, making it clear that he should leave if he finds the situation uncomfortable.
Heartbroken, Nicky handed Caleb a birthday card, which left Caleb feeling guilty, as he promised him that this time next year, they’ll be celebrating his birthday together, in public as father and son, having accomplished their plot.
But will it pan out like that? Or will Nicky’s cold feet get the better of him?
Emmerdale continues Monday May 1 at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
