Callum proposes to Whitney in EastEnders as he hides affair with Ben?

There are wedding bells on the horizon in EastEnders as Callum Highway (Tony Clay) pops the question to a delighted Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty). Which on paper, sounds all very romantic except for the fact that Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has tapped into Callum’s hidden struggle with his sexuality.

We can’t confirm at this stage whether Ben and Callum end up in a full blown affair but Ben has at the very least clocked that Callum is gay – something which Callum is keen to distant himself from as he looks to the future with Whitney.

His distant behaviour concerns Whitney, who opens up to Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) and she is troubled when she then gets a text saying that they need to talk. However, it’s not a split as she fears – she returns to the flat where Callum proposes marriage.

And we can only assume that Whitney accepts as recent pictures showed her out dress shopping with Tiffany (Maisie Smith). But is she set for heartbreak as Callum uses the facade of marriage to convince Ben – and possibly himself – that he isn’t gay?

As Callum’s confusion deepens, he ends up turning to his brother Stuart (Ricky Champ) for advice on behalf of a ‘friend’. But pretty soon Stuart clocks that Callum is in fact talking about himself.

Will he be the brother that he needs or will he use the information he has discovered to his advantage?

One to watch: Monday 10th June at 8pm on BBC One.
