Instead, Matt Taylor took her place to present the numerous forecasts during the programme on both Monday and Tuesday – with no explanation given as to why Carol wasn't there.

Matt was welcomed onto the show by hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent as he informed viewers that there would be milder conditions.

Addressing Carol's absence, Matt told the presenters: "This morning I think Carol has run off with a bit of sunshine in her bag."

At the time, one wrote: "Where is Carol? #BBCBreakfast"

Another posted: "I miss Carol this morning on BBC Breakfast, where has she gone?"

It came after Carol went missing from the show on Friday without explanation.
