Coronation Street viewers saw Yasmeen Nazir (played by Shelley King) defend herself against Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholemew) last month after his tirade of abuse took its toll. As Geoff’s son Tim (Joe Duttine) has rallied around his father, his wife Sally (Sally Dynevor) has been less keen to welcome him back to Weatherfield. Last week, Sally asked Geoff to leave the home she shares with his son but could she decide to go and visit Yasmeen after the recent events bring up some past memories of her own?

Shockwaves were sent through the cobbles last month when Geoff was rushed to hospital after Yasmeen attacked him with a wine bottle.

ITV viewers have seen Geoff gradually begin to control every aspect of his partner in recent months and has made her life a living hell.

From cutting her off from her friends and family to controlling her behaviour, his sickening actions have known no bounds.

Yasmeen gradually started to move away from her former lively self and became a shell of the person she once was.

The restauranteur believed her husband’s abuse was her fault and she did not realise she had been controlled all this time.

However, after a humiliating evening out with her Geoff’s son Tim (Joe Duttine) and daughter-in-law Sally, she was left unsure how to move forward.

When Geoff threatened her with a kitchen knife, Yasmeen grabbed a wine bottle from the counter and struck her partner with the object.

He fell lifeless to the ground and Yasmeen called the emergency services after believing she had killed her husband and she was soon carted off by the police.

The residents of Weatherfield have since remained divided over the pair’s relationship but now, with most starting to see Geoff for who he truly is, could something from Sally’s past prove vital in getting the abuser convicted?

Long-term soap fans will remember Sally herself was the victim of abuse back in the 90s when she embarked on a relationship with manipulative Greg Kelly (Stephen Billington).

The character was brought to Weatherfield to look for his long-lost father, Les Battersby (Bruce Jones) and later conned Sally out of her recent financial gains.

When Sally realised she didn’t want to be with him anymore, Greg turned violent and put his partner through a horrendous ordeal of her own.

Now, with hints Sally’s own difficult past may be revisited, could she step in and help Yasmeen’s case as she realises she has been through something quite similar?

Sally Dynevor – who plays the fiery matriarch – explained to TV Times: “She’s remembering how awful that was. That was a different kind of abuse – she was beaten up – but I think Sally is getting angrier and angrier.”

The star also hinted her character could prove vital in ensuring she is protected from Geoff’s behaviour in the future.

Sally added: ”I’d love Sally to have a best friend. She sees Gail, which is great, but there are conversations I wish Sally could have, and I hope she could have them with Yasmeen.”

“I’d love her to talk about those years when she was with Greg, and the time she was with Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and he had an affair with Natalie (Denise Welch). She has got so much to offload.”

Sally hasn’t yet been to see Yasmeen in prison but she perhaps, she will decide to do so in the hope she can get through to the latter as she continues to remain suspicious of Geoff.

Will she pay her mother-in-law a visit in as she remains in custody and explain her own situation from the past, in another attempt to try and get through to Yasmeen?

Could Sally come up with a plan of her own to seek revenge if Yasmeen decides to confide in her further about Geoff’s true colours?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
