Summer (played by Harriet Bibby) has had a lot going on lately. She was diagnosed with diabetes, caught up in rumours of a relationship with her teacher and suffered the blow of her stepfather Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) splitting up. On top of this, the ITV soap character is facing the stress of applying to Oxford University. In upcoming Coronation Street scenes, the troubled youngster also starts displaying signs of an eating disorder.

Summer recently developed an infatuation with her teacher Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) in the ITV soap.

Although nothing happened, things turned chaotic when Max Turner (Paddy Bever) told the entire school the two were having an affair.

After realising Daniel was simply being friendly and didn’t have feelings for her, Summer was left hurt.

As she begins comparing herself to Daniel’s ex Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), Summer heads down a dangerous road.

In upcoming scenes, she tries to apologise to Daniel but is upset when he tells her he isn’t allowed to talk to her.

While she’s at school, she watches as the Weatherfield teacher flees from his classroom.

She’s horrified when she investigates and finds the word “paedo” scrawled across the board.

Later, Summer looks at photos of Daisy and feels frumpy.

In an effort to take her mind off things, Billy takes her to the Bistro.

After she eats a burger though, Summer starts to feel guilty.

With no idea about Summer’s struggles, Billy begins to assure her she will smash her Oxford interview.

If she begins to cut out food in secret though, Summer could exacerbate her diabetes symptoms.

Not only could this be a huge threat to her health, but it could also end up crushing her dreams of getting into Oxford.

She’s been preparing for the interview for months, but if she stops eating she might end up feeling too weak on the big day.

If she gets more bad news, her mental health could deteriorate further.

Summer confided in Daisy about how mixed up she felt over Daniel after things blew out of control.

“It’s such a mess,” she cried as Daisy comforted her.

She continued: “How could someone so stupid be applying for Oxford?”

“We’re all idiots when it comes to love,” Daisy replied.

Summer explained: “I know I got it wrong. I misread the signs.

“There weren’t any signs, but we really clicked – I mean, really.

“Daniel said I was the most gifted student he’d ever come across.”

“And coming from him, that meant a lot, right?” Daisy guessed.

“Everything,” the student replied. “Yeah, everything.”

Clearly in a fragile state, Summer could begin to take a turn for the worse, and Billy seems to have no idea of how much she is struggling.

With nobody able to help her, and pressure to get into Oxford increasing, it seems Summer might be vulnerable to developing a serious disorder.

Sadly, her dreams may have to be put on hold as she needs time to recover from her experiences.

Will anybody be able to spot the signs and help her through?

Coronation Street continues on Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
