Corrie Janice and Les stars would only go back if Janice and Les got The Rovers

Former Coronation Street stars Vicky Entwhistle and Bruce Jones would return to the soap as iconic couple Janice and Les Battersby if they got to run the pub The Rovers Return.

The actors were reunited (albeit remotely from their homes) on Monday’s episode of Loose Women where they reminisced about their time on the soap and reflected on their close friendship.

Asked if they would ever go back to the cobbles, Vicky asked Bruce: ‘If they gave us the Rovers, Bruce, what do you think? Would you be up for running that with me?’

‘I would. But I’d only go back with you’, Bruce said.

Vicky replied: ‘Yeah, I don’t want you to go back with anyone else!’

The Battersbys arrived in Weatherfield in 1997 with daughters Leanne (Jane Danson) and Toyah (Georgia Taylor) in tow.

They were a rowdy lot, often getting into physical fights with the other residents.

Vicky confessed that viewers ‘hated’ the raucous family for years.

She said: ‘We did have some great laughs. We used to get told off like you wouldn’t believe. They’d say “cut” and we’d be laughing our heads off over what we had to say or do – it was really outrageous.

‘We were like, “We’re going to ruin this programme!” We’d both separately been watching it for years. Then all of a sudden, he’s got to headbutt Curly and I’ve got to shout at everyone.

‘We’re like, “No one’s going to like us!” And to be honest, I don’t think they did!’

Both ex stars were very tearful throughout, as it had been some years since they last saw each other.

Bruce said: ‘The first day we met we gelled, it was such a great thing for me. To have an actress of Vicky’s standard was unbelievable.

‘We just gelled and became the Battersbys. When I read the script I thought we were gonna be hated, but we did it. Vicky and myself we worked hard and we did it.

‘The first two years we were hated, I even think i got told off by my mum! She said, “You do anything to that Ken [Barlow] and don’t bother coming home!”.’

Vicky left the soap in 2011 while Bruce left in 2007.
