Death in Paradise fans will be on major countdown as it’s been announced that the popular BBC One show will be broadcasting a Christmas special this year.
This will be the very first time that the long-running series, which is celebrating its tenth year on the box, has graced our screens over the festive period.
And the whole cast and crew are making sure it will be an episode to remember, even bringing back a very familiar face from the past – much to the delight of diehard viewers.
Actor Danny John-Jules will be stepping back into the shoes of Officer Dwayne Myers after four years away, as he returns to the police team to investigate a thrilling new murder mystery.
Speaking about why he had no hesitations about returning to film with the rest of the Death in Paradise gang in Guadeloupe, Danny said: “It’s always a pleasure going back to the Caribbean.
“And after four years away, fitting back into the fold should be seamless, as I know all the new leading cast members already.”
He added: “I look forward to bringing Dwayne and this tenth-anniversary special script to life.”
Teasing what’s in store for Dwayne and the rest of the characters we’ve come to know and love, BBC One has revealed: “As Florence (Joséphine Jobert) leaves the island to spend Christmas with her family, the team welcome Dwayne (Danny John-Jules) with open arms to help solve a murder case.”
“Dwayne comes to realise he's not only met Officer Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) before, but he once arrested him!
“How will the team of old and new faces come together to unravel this murderous crime?”
Elsewhere, fans will be on the edge of their seats waiting to see whether Neville and Florence will embark on a romance.
"Meanwhile, after vexed fans were left hanging in suspense after the cliff-hanger ending of series ten earlier this year, will they finally discover whether Neville (Ralf Little) told Florence about his feelings for her?” the summary adds.
“Viewers have watched Neville and Florence's relationship develop over the course of series ten and all will be revealed in the Christmas special with more surprises to come in series eleven.”
Announcing the news on the Death in Paradise Twitter account, BBC bosses said: “We have exciting news… there’s a #DeathInParadise Christmas special coming your way to continue our tenth anniversary celebrations!”
They also posted a video of leading man Ralf Little, who plays Neville, speaking about what’s in store in the anticipated episode as he filmed on a beautiful beach.
Sharing his excitement, he said: “We are finishing off our series ten, tenth year anniversary celebrations in style.”
Ralf added: “This year we are going to have a Christmas special, before we then move into series eleven, which I’m filming right now in yet another stunning location because I’m the luckiest guy on Earth.”
