Sonia Fowler (played by Natalie Cassidy) attempted to track down her long lost father after daughter Bex Fowler (Jasmine Armfield) decided to leave home and travel the world. Although EastEnders fans know little about her search, Sonia will be gobsmacked in upcoming scenes when estranged dad Terry Cant (Brian Conley) turns up in Walford but will he be bearing bad news?
The cheeky Londoner arrives in the BBC soap next week but his first meeting with Sonia doesn’t go as planned.
Sonia inadvertently hurls abuse at her father while clashing with Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero).
Terry finds his estranged daughter in the Queen Vic but she isn’t willing to welcome him with open arms.
The new arrival proves to be a huge hit with the Walford locals but it’s clear Sonia is uncertain about trusting him.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Brian opened up on Sonia and Terry’s first encounter.
He revealed: “It’s very moving because she hasn’t seen her dad and she’s annoyed that he’s not been there and he’s upset that he’s not been there.
“But when he turns up and says, ‘I’m your dad’ she’s had a few drinks and it doesn’t go well.”
Opening up on why Terry has decided to reach out to his daughter, Brian admitted he finds it difficult to connect with Sonia.
“You cannot come in without a backstory, of course, things happen,” he said.
“I mean more than anything, especially in those earlier episodes, he’s got to convince Sonia.
“He’s been away for all this time, he hasn’t been there for her all this time and why hasn’t he?”
“He has to convince her, am I really her Dad? And I think initially you are sceptical, you’re going to be because he embellishes the truth,” he continued.

Addressing his motives for arriving in Walford, Brian said: “Obviously he’s got to find his daughter, he’s been away for a long time and of course, we find out why.
“But, yes, that’s really all I think I can say is that yes, he’s cheeky, he’s got the gift of the gab, his [nickname] is Rocky.”
Meanwhile, Brian explained why his first few scenes were more “nerve-wracking” than he thought they would be.
“My first day was at Ruby’s, and of course typically Rocky is holding call in this bar, telling a slightly exaggerated story about why he’s called Rocky.
“It wasn’t like I had one line I’m there holding court but what an honour to be standing there.”
“I’m also in the Vic on the first day and I am getting nervous because it’s a big scene with a lot of the characters from the show,” he added.
“Once again I’m holding court and telling a few jokes everyone’s laughing.
“But I just look over and I get emotional now because on the shelf is a little cab and it’d obviously been there a long time.
“That felt like my dad because my dad was a cab driver and he died 20 years ago.”
EastEnders continues tonight on BBC One at 7.35pm.
