Emmerdale’s Ryan Hawley quits ITV soap after five years as Robert Sugden

Ryan Hawley has quit Emmerdale after five years, it has been reported.

The actor, who plays Robert Sugden, looks set for a dramatic exit at the end of this year.

News of his exit will leave fans utterly devastated due to his character Robert's on-off fiery relationship with Aaron Dingle, played by Danny Miller.

A source told The Sun : "Emmerdale fans have loved every minute of Robron’s story, and what Ryan has brought to playing Robert.

"But he has decided to take a break from the show for the foreseeable future and try other projects."

They added that he is expected to leave later this year but will seen on screen right up until the end of 2019.

Ryan first appeared as Robert on Emmerdale in 2014 and quickly became involved in a tumultuous affair with Aaron, despite being married to wife Chrissie.

Their romance was later exposed – but the drama certainly wasn't over for the couple.

Following this, Robert and Aaron had to endure prison stints, near-death experiences and a cheating scandal.

But they managed to make it out the other side and have been enjoying a quieter life at home with Aaron's sister Liv.

However Robert has been left devastated recently after discovering that his sister was raped Victoria during a night out, leading to Robert and Aaron's vigilante mission for justice.

It is not yet known how he will leave the soap, but fans are already speculating that his exit could be connected to Victoria's current storyline.

Over the years Ryan has won numerous awards for playing Robert, including a TRIC Award for Best Soap Actor last year and an Inside Soap Award in 2015 for Best Newcomer.

Ryan is the fourth actor to play the character of Robert, which has appeared in the soap on-and-off since 1986.

The Mirror has contacted Emmerdale for comment.
