Former Hollyoaks star Charlie Wernham is set to arrive in Walford this autumn. He'll play new character Aaron Monroe who stops by the Square to see his dad Harvey (played by Ross Boatman) and younger sister Dana (Barbara Smith).
The father/daughter duo are set to move into the Square permanently as Dana's rocky relationship with Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell) progresses. Aaron – fresh from the city – pops by to check out their new set up.
But who is the EastEnders newcomer? Many viewers will know Charlie, 26, from his stint in Hollyoaks, but eagle-eyed telly watchers will know that he's also been in some more of our small-screen favourites…
Who will Charlie Wernham play in EastEnders?
EastEnders bosses have teased that Aaron is "Harvey's wayward eldest son."
Announcing his upcoming arrival, they said: "He's confident and likes to get his own way. He’s close to his dad who raised him alone but as soon as Aaron landed a city job in finance, he left home and didn’t look back.
"Things between Aaron and his sister Dana are strained and she often feels shut out by him. Though Aaron is fiercely loyal, his arrogance often becomes his biggest asset and downfall in equal measure."
On joining the BBC soap, Charlie added: “It was always a childhood dream of mine to be in EastEnders. It’s a show that’s constantly on TV in my household as my family are massive fans so it’s always been close to my heart. I can’t wait to get cracking and join an incredibly talented cast!”
Plus, with EastEnders claiming that Aaron "decides to hang around" after "a few things catch his eye," it looks like Charlie's here to stay.
Is Charlie Wernham a comedian?
Before he broke into acting, Charlie actually auditioned for (and did pretty well on!) Britain's Got Talent. He appeared on the second series of the show which aired in 2008, performing stand-up comedy routines for the judges.
Piers Morgan claimed that Charlie's jokes were terrible but softened the blow by adding that he'd delivered a confident performance.
On the other hand, Simon Cowell said: "We've had some rotten comedians on this show, but you're the only one who's made me laugh and told jokes that I could understand."
Amanda Holden said Charlie "made her moan." He received three yeses from the judges and made it through to the live semi-finals.
