Ex EastEnders star Katie Jarvis lands first role since it was revealed she’s working at B&M – The Sun

EX-EastEnders star Katie Jarvis has starred in her first acting role since it was revealed she was working as a security guard in B&M.

The actress, 28, who played Hayley Slater in the soap, has a leading role in Million Youth Media's gritty short film Take Me in which she plays a mum struggling to make ends meet.

Despite working in sales and her husband balancing two jobs to try and make ends meet, the couple don't have the cash to fund one of their sons' school trips.

She also receives a message telling her she has insufficient funds to make a direct debit payment.

In a desperate effort to make some cash, she takes to secretly pushing drugs for a shady dealer.

It all goes horribly wrong when the police turn up at the family home with a search warrant.

Both parents come close to being arrested, before their eldest insists the drugs are his.

The short flick had viewers on YouTube praising the actors and begging for more.

One wrote: "The best I’ve seen on here so far, great acting from everyone and sick storyline ????."

A second posted: "This was so deep man. MYM well done again. Appreciate the time and effort that you guys put in to make this happen. ❤❤❤❤."

While a third wrote: "WE NEED A PART 2."

Katie made headlines in October after it was revealed she was working as a security guard at bargain store B&M just months after leaving EastEnders.

She was pictured on her break at the retailer's Romford, Essex store and was subsequently job-shamed.

Katie – who is mum to Lillie Mae, ten, and Alfie, eight – hit back shortly afterwards, telling Victoria Derbyshire: "All actors go through it over the years, I've had so many jobs in between and not just being a security guard."

She added that she was proud to be doing all she can to provide for her family in between acting jobs.

She continued: "One of my sisters she calls me a dabbler because I seem to do a bit of everything and I like to be busy and I like to learn new things, it doesn't matter what it is.

"The people I work with there are amazing, they get up every single day, they work hard for their money and it doesn't matter what job you're doing.

"I don't feel like anyone should be made to feel like how I felt when I woke up.

"I think as long as you're working that's all that matters."

She also admitted the role was far from easy, pointing out that security guards put themselves at risk for other people's safety.

She said: "A lot goes into being a security guard, they put themselves at risk. I took that job on and joined my sister because she's a security guard there."

Katie kicked off her acting career in 2009 drama Fish Tank alongside Michael Fassbender, before landing the part of Hayley Slater at the beginning of 2018.

The loudmouth character was at the centre of a major storyline in which she got pregnant with Alfie Moon's baby after having an affair in Spain.

Their betrayal was discovered by Kat Slater in an explosive Christmas special – with Katie's final scenes being aired in February.
