The 33-year-old actress is best known for her role as Kate Connor in the ITV soap, Coronation Street.
The star, from Manchester, first took to the cobbles in 2015 and she appeared in a total of 433 episodes before saying goodbye in 2019.
She ended up winning an award for Best Newcomer for her role in the 2017 National Television Awards.
The star announced she would be leaving the soap on Twitter, telling her fans she was keen to explore new opportunities.
She said while she loved playing Kate, she needed a break from the role and wanted to explore pastures new.
ITV said the door will always be left open for her character, so she may well return in the future.
In the soap, her character left Weatherfield so she could go travelling and her open ending means she will always be welcomed back.
At the time of her departure, Brookes said she was grateful to ITV for leaving her character’s door open in case she ever wished to return.
Since leaving the series, the star has used her free time to see more of her partner, Joe Davies.
The couple got together in 2019 and things seem to be going great, with Brookes saying on Instagram: “I honestly believe I’m a better person just being near you my love.”
