Gogglebox fans go wild as Mary and Marina return for final show of the series after over a year offscreen
GOGGLEBOX stars Mary and Marina will return to the show for the final show of the series tonight after over a year offcreen.
The elderly women – who are in their 90s – were been forced to stop filming as show bosses did their best to protect them amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The duo received their coronavirus vaccines together in January after months of shielding in their homes in St Monica Trust retirement village in Westbury-on-Trym.
And now Gogglebox have announced the fan favourites will be back on the show tonight.
"We’ve got a sweet treat in store for you tonight… Mary and Marina are back for the series finale!" the show's official Twitter account posted.
Fans were delighted and one tweeted: "All the other families/people are lovely, but let’s be honest……Mary and Marina are the stars of the show."
"Brilliant. Love these two gorgeous ladies," another added.
"Aww thats great news. But nooooo not last one tonight. This is what we look forward to on a Friday night. Lol," a third added.
Last year Gogglebox creator Tania Alexander explained producers had to make the difficult decision to stop filming with the pair so they weren't risk.
"Unfortunately, it was not possible to film with the full cast," she told The Telegraph.
"For example, we took the decision to tell Mary and Marina, who are in their 90s and live in a care home, that we didn’t want them put at any risk so we should stop filming with them altogether.
"The ladies are safe and well looked after but often tell us they dearly miss the crews and the fun they have during filming each week."
Fans had been missing the pair, with one viewer saying: "Whenever I see Mary and Marina in the opening montage it makes me sad. Miss u ladies #Gogglebox."
Another added: "Hope Mary and Marina are ok..Two hearts #Gogglebox."
Someone else said: "I do miss Mary and Marina."
