Gorka Marquez and his Strictly Come Dancing celebrity partner Maisie Smith appeared on It Takes Two on Thursday evening to share details of their upcoming Cha Cha Cha this weekend. The professional dancer was taken by surprise at the end of their interview when presenter Gethin revealed he had a video message from Gemma Atkinson and his daughter Mia.

In the video, Gemma told her partner: “You are doing so well.

“I am so proud of you, we are so proud of you.”

Mia could be seen dancing as she stood next to Gemma as the former contestant continued: “She is dancing, she is off.

“She is off. Can’t wait to see you and give you a big squeeze, we love you so much, you did incredible last weekend and we can’t wait to see you.”

As Gemma encouraged Mia: “Say, go on Papa,” Gorka could be seen wiping tears from his eyes.

Maisie wrapped her arms around him as he told Gethin: “You can’t do that.”

“I know how much you are missing the girls,” the host remarked.

Gorka explained: “Yeah, you know it is worth it. She is smashing it.

“I know they are so proud. I can’t wait to see them and dance with the little one.”

After it was announced Nicola Adams had to pull out of this year’s series as her partner Katya Jones has tested positive for Covid-19, Gethin wanted to know how Gorka and Maisie felt about their exit.

Maisie commented: “It is so sad. I hear them from my dressing room every single Saturday so it will be weird just not hearing anything.”

Gorka added: “And you know, what it is sad because the whole team is putting so much effort into it.

“We take so much care you know, but the virus is out there, anyone can get it.”

“The guys have been brilliant,” Gethin chipped in.

Gorka continued: “They were doing such a brilliant job. Katya was so excited to be dancing with Nicola.”

Maisie shared: “We are sending our love though.”

A BBC spokesperson confirmed to Express.co.uk: “Nicola Adams and Katya Jones are to leave Strictly Come Dancing after Katya tested positive for COVID-19.

“Katya is asymptomatic and the pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

“As part of the protocols outlined ahead of the series, this sadly means they will no longer be able to take part in the competition.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday on BBC One at 7.25pm.
