The next episode of Grey’s Anatomy is one of the most hyped events of the medical drama’s long history. After a brand new promo trailer teased an emotional reunion for one of the show’s most beloved romantic pairings, viewers were disappointed when they realised the ABC series had taken yet another impromptu hiatus.
The seventeenth season of Grey’s Anatomy has featured plenty of unprecedented twists and turns.
Not least of which has been the surprise return of Meredith Grey’s (played by Ellen Pompeo) dishy dead husband, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
As the series moves towards the final few episodes of season 17, all eyes are on the long awaited reunion for one of Grey’s most fondly remembered couples.
In episode 14, ‘Look Up Child’, Sarah Drew will finally be reprising her role as April Kepner after departing the series in 2017.
Despite going through divorce proceedings in season 12, many fans are convinced April is finally ready to give swoon-worthy plastic surgeon Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) another chance.
Affectionately dubbed ‘Japril’ by the show’s romantically-inclined viewers, Jackson and April’s relationship has remained one of the most enduring parts of the series, despite coming to an end several seasons previously.
Unfortunately, ABC will be keeping the show’s sizable audience waiting just a little longer, as the next episode won’t be hitting screens until next Thursday, May 6.
Several diehard Grey’s fans went ballistic on social media when the US network announced yet another unexpected midseason break.
On Twitter, one user exclaimed: “This is gonna be the longest two weeks ever!”
While others were frustrated with the show’s decision to air a tantalising trailer showcasing Jackson and April’s finest moments before delaying the next episode.
Another fan said: “So #station19 and #GreysAnatomy are gonna give us those trailers and then make us wait two weeks!!!!”
And another wrote: “Oh my god… you’re just gotta lay down the trailer for the next episode like that and then make us WAIT!!! Ahhhh!”

On the other hand, some fans have seen the delay as a much needed break after last week’s emotional rollercoaster.
As the medical staff at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital continue to deal with the effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so too has the production of the show’s latest instalments.
Fans have already been forced to endure a shortened run this year, as season 17 will comprise just 17 episodes as opposed to the show’s usual slate of around 24 instalments.
Additionally, the series has subjected viewers to a number of unexpected breaks in the last year.
Two episodes kicked off the latest season last November, but Grey’s Anatomy kept fans waiting until March after taking a break back in December.
ABC have yet to release the upcoming schedule for the rest of season 17, prompting fears that fans could be kept waiting yet again following Jackson and April’s long awaited reconciliation.
Still, the wildly popular hospital drama remains on top form and as popular as ever, with millions of viewers still expected to tune in for the next episode at the start of May.
Grey’s Anatomy season 17 continues Thursday, May 6 on ABC.
