I’m A Celebrity 2020: Simon Gregson questions Beverley Callard’s veganism

Simon Gregson has questioned Beverley Callard’s veganism in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp.

The Coronation Street actress raised eyebrows from viewers with her dietary restrictions – most notably when she had to chow down on fermented fruit and tofu during an eating challenge, while co-stars Vernon Kay and Jordan North struggled to swallow animal brains and penis.

Speaking about the scenes during a stint on Loose Women, Simon – who plays her son, Steve, on the ITV soap – joked about her food intake.

‘Her daughter is vegan, and I’m sure Bev has done it for all the right reasons, you know, health and to save the planet,’ he told the panel.

‘If you believe that, I’m a mango.’

When asked if he believed her veganism is to make sure she ‘doesn’t have to eat anything disgusting’, the soap star couldn’t help but laugh.

‘I’m pretty sure it’s because she doesn’t have to put a willy in her mouth,’ Simon joked.

‘I’ve known Bev when she’s come back from a pub late in the morning with kebab in her hair…

‘Maybe she’ll come back with vegan bread in her hair?’

Fair play…

Simon also heaped praise on his co-star’s antics in the castle, insisting that she is a ‘massive’ team player.

‘She’s doing brilliantly. The great thing about Bev is that she’s a brilliant storyteller, a great storyteller,’ he continued. ‘She’ll be absolutely brilliant in camp with everyone, she’ll keep everybody’s spirits up.

‘She’s a massive team player. And even though, in the deepest parts of her soul, she’ll be like, “No way I want to do that,” but she will, because she won’t want to let anybody down. She’ll go the distance.’

Tipping her for success on the show, Simon added: ‘I think she’s got a very good chance of winning, because people haven’t really seen Bev’s true personality a lot before.

‘She’s very funny and I think the whole nation will warm to her. I think she’s got a great chance.’

We couldn’t agree more.

Loose Women continues on weekdays, at 12.30pm, on ITV.
