Liam Payne revealed this week that he has broken up with fiancée Maya Henry less than a year after their engagement, and Loose Women presenter Janet Street-Porter had a lot to say about it.

He revealed the split on the on The Diary Of A CEO podcast, saying: I feel like, more than anything at this point, I'm more disappointed in myself, I keep on hurting people. That annoys me.

"I've just not been very good at relationships and I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point.

"I'm just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else."

Janet was unimpressed with this, ranting: “Oh it’s all “me, me, me”. It's modern woke speak, it's exhausting.”

"Saying oh, I need to work on myself before I put myself onto someone else – that's as if he isn't in a mutual harmonious relationship, putting yourself onto them is like sticking yourself onto them and becoming half of them."

"It's a very weird concept," she insisted.

Coleen Nolan defended Liam, saying: "I think it was very mature of him" as Gloria Hunniford agreed: "It's quite a grown up thing that he did".

Janet argued back: "So you two are implying that I'm an immature, childish teenager?" "With four marriages!" exclaimed Coleen.

Happy to laugh at herself, Janet added: "I like my own company. I think I'm really nice. It doesn't matter what any of my partners over my entire lifetime have said, I'm more right than they are."

She says some people just like to be single and maybe Liam is one of them, and Janet had some dating advice: "You are never ever going to find the one that's going to work seven days a week, take a leaf from my book."

"I have a flexible system. You don't want to see them for more than 48 hours on the trot. Keep it flexible, after that it goes downhill and you're moaning about who loaded the dishwasher!" she said.

Coleen was kinder about Liam, talking about some of the letters she receives as an agony aunt, she thinks he's done the right thing: "I quite like what Liam saying that he's actually going to think about himself and how he should change."

"I think he was saying that seems to be a pattern, so he's looking at himself rather than blaming the other person. I think that's healthy."

One viewer thought it was rich that Janet was giving advice: "This lot judging other people’s relationships when they’ve all been divorced and remarried about 25 times between them!"
