Joanna Lumley received message from The Queen after she wrote a book about her

She’s already small screen royalty in her own right, but now Absolutely Fabulous actress and documentary maker Joanna Lumley has received the Queen’s seal of approval.

Joanna, who is friends with Prince Charles, has revealed that she was sent a personal message from Her Majesty after she wrote a book about her amazing life and reign, called A Queen for All Seasons.

Speaking during an appearance on ITV’s The Jonathan Ross Show, Joanna explained she was keen for the Queen to read the book as she’s a huge fan – so she took matters into her own hands.

The 75-year-old star said: “I sent her a copy of the book. I asked the aides of the palace, they said, ‘We’ll see that it’s placed before Her Majesty’.”

Joanna continued: “I love the idea that it went in on a trolley and it was placed before Her Majesty, who might have even picked it up and looked at it with that lovely Andy Warhol image on the front.”

Despite gifting the book, Joanna never imagined that she would hear back, so she was left speechless when she later received a note from the Queen herself.

Joanna explained: “Her majesty sent a message to say she was grateful I’d taken the trouble to send the book and sent her warmest wishes.”

The TV and film star had nothing but praise for the Royal family, as she recalled meeting several members over the years.

Speaking about brushing shoulders with both the Queen and Prince Charles, Joanna revealed: “If you do meet any member of the Royal family, they are so kind and so friendly and so polite and not grand. You’ll find kindly, good-hearted people.”

Asked specifically about the Queen, Joanna revealed she is ‘so down to earth’, before going on to say that one of her close friends had painted Her Majesty several times and giving an insight into what she's like behind closed doors.

She explained: “One day she was sitting for him and she said, ‘Do you think it’s cold in here?’ She said, ‘I think it’s cold.’”

“She [then] got on her knees, got some twigs… set a little fire going [in the hearth]. You kind of don’t imagine the Queen doing that.”

Later in the chat with Jonathan, Joanna touched on her decision to not tune into Netflix’s mega-hit The Crown, which chronicles the life of the Royals over the years.

Joanna, who is on Jonathan's show alongside guests like Holly Willoughby, explained: “I don’t watch it because I know it’s made up… these are real people and suddenly they’re made up to be different people and I don’t think it’s right.”

“I don’t think we really know what goes on behind anybody’s closed doors. I think – I have a suspicion – that that family’s much closer than we think.”
