All hail Queen Bey, Grammy winner … and maybe future Oscar winner?Beyoncé not only is starring in Disney’s upcoming remake of “The Lion King” as Nala, she created a new song for the movie.
Last night, the singer/actress release that song, “Spirit.” And that’s not all! It is the first single from a new album, “The Lion King: The Gift,” which will drop alongside the movie next week.
(This album is separate from the film soundtrack.)The album was produced and curated by Beyoncé, who said in a statement: “Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation.”
As for “Spirit,” Beyoncé wrote and produced the song along with IIya Salmanzadeh and Timothy McKenzie. It carries both melodic and lyrical themes from the original 1994 movie, including talking winds, gathering stars and opening heavens.
It’s only July and the Best Original Song Oscar race may already be in the bag.
“The Lion King” — which is already receiving rave reviews — opens July 19.
