Love Island fans change their minds on Joe and say he was ‘badly edited’
Love Island fans have changed their minds about "abusive" Joe Garratt and insisted must have been the victim of "bad editing".
The sandwich seller, 22, was viciously trolled as viewers accused him of abusing Lucie Donlan by being "manipulative and controlling".
He was dumped this week and appeared on Aftersun tonight to talk about his experiences in the villa.
Joe denied allegations he abused Lucie, and insisted producers would have kicked him out if he'd behaved badly.
His explanation won over fans, and they flocked to Twitter to back him up.
One tweeted: "Take back my comments about Joe on Aftersun he definitely is a nice lad badly edited and portrayed in the Villa…
"He seems really smitten with Lucie."
Another wrote: "Joe’s come across so mature and so nice on Aftersun, sorry but I really do think he was just a victim of nasty editing and poor self confidence."
A third added: "Me watching Aftersun, realising Joe was portrayed badly + my original gut feeling love reviving."
During the interview with Caroline Flack, Joe said: "It's blown out of proportion.
"It hasn't been easy, it was pretty heartbreaking – and wasn't nice to see myself portrayed like that.
"But you know how the show works. If I was [abusive] I would have been kicked out.
"I wasn't like that all. I tried to to do what I thought was right".
Joe added that his parents were devastated by the way he was portrayed, adding: It was hard [for them]."
He went on to insist that if he really was controlling, he was have asked Lucie to leave the villa with him.
