Love Island newcomer Chuggs Wallis has an unusual nickname, but when he revealed its true meaning to Sharon Gaffka during Thursday’s night instalment, viewers were stunned.

The 23 year old Surrey entrepreneur joined Sharon for a first date in the villa as bosses announced two bombshells had arrived.

Upon getting to know each other, Sharon, 25, couldn’t hide her surprise to learn her date’s unusual name, as she peered at him in confusion.

“I have a question… Chuggs?” she enquired.

Explaining its origin straight away, the bucket hat company owner revealed it’s the combination of the words “cuddles and hugs”.

“Oh yes this was going to come at some point so let's get it out the way now.

“So it’s my nickname. Like a baby name… cuddles and hugs,” the public school boy told her with a smile.

“My Christian name is Oliver,” the newcomer added.

Sharon didn’t seem too overly impressed by the revelation as she replied: “Oh right okay that’s cute, I thought there might be a story behind it.”

However, viewers went into meltdown with former winner Amber Gill posted: “Cuddles and Hugs??? Wasn't expecting that! #LoveIsland.”

“Chugs for cuddles and hugs … GTFO out of the villa #LoveIsland,” a fan joked.

“Naaaahhh 'cuddles and hugs CHUGGS'… why didn't he just go in as Oliver!” a second wondered.

While a third gushed: “Oh so it's 'cuddles and hugs' ok that's quite sweet!”

“What sort of grown man willingly answers to the abbreviation of cuddles and hugs #LoveIsland?” a fourth asked.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox
