The fallen angel Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) became the new God in a startling twist at the end of the Netflix phenomenon’s latest season finale. With the powers of his father at his fingertips, will Lucifer be able to handle his newfound responsibilities or will he have to call on someone else to take over?

Season six of Lucifer could conclude with yet another character becoming God, some popular fan theories have suggested.

The devil said goodbye to his father (Dennis Haysbert) and mother (Tricia Helfer) last time round, leaving him in charge of the entire universe.

Unfortunately, the reckless celestial doesn’t take well to extra responsibility, and could realise he may have been a little hasty in accepting the mantle.

Speculation leading up to the show’s sixth and final season has proposed Lucifer could eventually find a more suitable candidate for the Silver City’s throne.

After ascending to heaven herself in the season five finale, Lucifer’s girlfriend Chloe Decker (Lauren German) is currently being touted as a perfect replacement for the ruler of creation.

One fan took to Reddit recently to suggest Chloe would make a far superior God than her charming yet unpredictable boyfriend.

User LJHodge616 began the theory: “I think Chloe will become God.”

They later added: “Lucifer in the series, and in that tiny teaser, doesn’t seem like he really wants to be God.”

In the first teaser for the new season, Lucifer seems to be shirking his responsibilities and still living it up as Los Angeles’ biggest party animal.

He’ll also have the threat of his rebellious sister, Rory (Brianna Hildebrand) to deal with before he can actually start managing the lives of everyone on earth.

Once he’s exhausted the limits of what he can do with his newfound omnipotence, Lucifer could quite easily realise he’s not cut out for such a big job.

Luckily, one person has been at his side throughout the entire series, and fans would universally agree his true love Chloe Decker is far more capable of handling the responsibility.

Plus, Chloe already has some form of celestial heritage, as the series revealed her birth had been blessed by Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside).

The fan continued: “They never explained why exactly God made her, the characters assumed she was a gift for Lucifer and God never corrected them.

“It could be that she wasn’t FOR Lucifer but the reverse, he was meant to help HER get ready/become the person who could take the role of God.”

Even following his departure, God could still have a plan for Lucifer to become the best version of himself possible.

His new position could very well be a test for Lucifer to realise his strengths lay elsewhere.

Having discovered his own self-worth by the end of the series, the new God could pass on his abilities to someone more worthy and finally live the life he was always meant to lead.

‘Lucifans’ are all keeping their fingers crossed for a happy ending for ‘Deckerstar’, but they could face their toughest decision yet in the final ten episodes of Lucifer.

Lucifer season 6 will be released on Friday, September 10 on Netflix.
