If Luther season six is going ahead, it is hard to predict when the series will air.

Season one premiered in 2010, followed by season two in 2011 and series three in 2013.

Season four aired in 2015 and fans had to wait four years for season five to air in 2019.

Hopefully, the wait for season six will not be as long.

Express.co.uk will update this article when more information is available.

If a sixth series does not go ahead, fans should keep their fingers crossed for a film.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press after accepting his Virgin Media BAFTA Special Award in Summer 2020, Elba discussed his hopes of a Luther film.

He said: “I’d like to see it come to a film and that’s where I think we are heading towards a film.

“So I’m looking forward to making that happen. It is happening and I’m hoping it is going to be happening soon.

“With a film, the sky is the limit. You can be a little bit more bold.

“The storylines may be more international and up the scale.

“John Luther is always going to be John Luther.”
