After an unparalleled career spanning three decades, Michael Schumacher took a step back from his career as a Formula One racer in 2012. After a near-fatal skiing accident, the family of the German icon will be releasing a Netflix documentary about his life and career – and in the trailer his daughter gushed with pride about Michael.

An official Netflix trailer for the brand new documentary titled Schumacher has been released.

His family were finally ready to give fans some insight into the life and career of the Formula One champion.

Featuring exclusive interviews from his colleagues, the documentary will open up about his near-fatal accident which took place in the French Alps in 2013.

Despite wearing a helmet, Micheal hit his head on a rock which caused him to suffer a major head injury and was later placed in a medically induced coma.

After enduring several operations on his brain, the seven-time world champion returned home in Lake Geneva, after being in a coma for three months.

Eight years later, this will be the first time his family have let the public into his life post-accident.

Michael has not been seen in public since the accident and the Schumacher’s have largely remained silent about his health.

Although Michael himself will not feature in the documentary, Netflix has confirmed they have the full support of his family.

The trailer which was released in August showed snippets of the icon’s childhood and his many races.

It featured rare interviews with his family, colleagues and a bunch of previously unreleased archived footage.

During the trailer, his daughter Gina Schumacher gushed when she spoke about her father and detailed the pride she had for him.

In the interview she said: “We’ll he’s my dad and I’m glad that he is.”

His son Mick, who was also present during the accident spoke out and shared: “When I look at him, I think, ‘I want to be like that.’”

The 22-year-old has followed in his father’s footsteps and became a racing driver.

He began his career in 2008 and now races for Haas in Formula one under the German flag, despite being Swiss-born.

Much like his father, Mick is already winning titles as he won the 2020 formula two championship after progressing to the tier in 2019.

Alongside his children, the Netflix documentary will also include an exclusive interview from his wife Corinna and father Rolf.

Other Formula One icons such as Sebastian Vettel, Mika Häkkinen and Damon Hill will also share their experiences.

In the trailer, Corinna opened up about Michael and said: “I think that he is simply very strong mentally. Extremely strong. He still shows me how strong he is every day.”

This documentary is set to be the first time the Schumacher family have candidly let the public into their private lives.

Schumacher will be released on Wednesday, September 15 on Netflix.
