Ugo Monye and Oti Mabuse had to say their goodbyes to Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday evening as the pair weren’t able to impress with their Rumba. After landing at the foot of the leaderboard following the judges’ scores, BBC viewers failed to give them the supporting votes needed to keep them out of the dreaded dance-off – which they lost to Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu. However, stepping in for Alex Scott on Tuesday’s The One Show, Oti was joined by co-host Jermaine Jenas who “blamed” her early exit from the show on Ugo.
Ugo and Oti had struggled throughout the early weeks of this year’s Strictly, loitering toward the foot of the leaderboard for the first three weeks.
However, an injury to Ugo – which landed him in hospital – meant the pair were allowed to skip Week Four and head straight into this past Saturday’s show.
Sadly, the pair ended up following in the footsteps of Nina Wadia, Katie McGlynn and Greg Wise as they fell victim to the public vote and dance-off.
With training and rehearsals no longer dominating the work diary, Oti was able to step in for Football Focus host Alex who pulled out of Monday and Tuesday’s The One Show with illness.
Opening the programme, Oti gleefully said to BBC viewers: “Hello and welcome your Tuesday’s The One Show with Jermaine Jenas…”
Jermaine then jumped in but right away turned the conversation towards her and Ugo’s Strictly exit.
“And Oti Mabuse,” Jermaine began. “Actually, I can’t believe you got voted off.
“You and Ugo Monye got voted off on Strictly, didn’t you, this weekend?” Jermaine probed before cheekily remarking: “I’m blaming Ugo.”
As Jermaine brought the topic up, a clip of Ugo and Oti’s Rumba played out on-screen.
“I’m so heartbroken,” Oti replied as she expressed her sadness at leaving but soon hit back at Jermaine’s comments.
“But let’s not blame him,” Oti protested. “He had a back injury.”
Nevertheless, The One Show host continued to tease his co-star as he critiqued the pair’s performance from the weekend.

“I know, but I don’t know, there he is, look,” Jermaine continued.
“I mean he looks like a really good, um… rugby player, shall we say? Put it that way.”
Oti let out a laugh at her co-host’s remarks but once again jumped to Ugo’s defence.
The former Strictly champion responded: “He did try his best and we had a good time with that dance.”
After sharing a laugh, Jermaine turned to the camera and said: “You did. Sorry, Ugo.”
With Oti and Ugo no longer in the competition, all eyes are on this week’s Halloween Special to see who’ll be next for the exit door.
As it stands, Loose Women’s Judi Love – who missed Week Five with Covid – is favourite to be eliminated.
However, the odds aren’t looking good for the likes of Dan Walker, Adam Peaty and Sara Davies who could also be in danger.
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
