Outlander follows the life of World War II nurse Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) as she time-travels to a different century and despite being a married woman weds another man from the past. It’s during her wedding where fans noticed a major error in the historical Starz drama.
While on her honeymoon, with her husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) in Scotland, Claire discovered some mysterious stones.
After trying to get a closer look she was transported from 1945, back to her very location in the 18th century.
There Claire was rescued by a fellow highlander after almost being taken by a Redcoat and was placed into hiding at a cottage where Jamie Fraser (Sam Hueghan) was hiding out.
The two experienced love at first sight as Claire offered to help fix his shoulder which he dislocated after fighting with English soldiers.
The pair continued to get to know each other as they journeyed to Castle Loch on the same horse.
This is where viewers learned Jamie was in hiding after a price was put on his head for a crime he didn’t commit, which prohibited him from returning to his family home.
After spending months together the two eventually decided to get married so Claire could evade the Redcoats who were suspicious of her English accent.
By marrying Jamie, she became Scottish but it was during their wedding where fans noticed a huge blunder.
Taking to screenrant.com, the viewer shared that during the wedding, Claire had to take part in several Scottish traditions she was unfamiliar with.
The fan wrote: “They need to slice open their wrists so that they bleed.
“Jamie and Claire are shown very explicitly to have their wrists cut into, but as the episode continues on, there is absolutely no sign of the cuts that we were shown in any scene that is set after this,” they explained.
This eagle-eyed viewer was correct throughout the rest of the episodes their wrists appeared cut-free, this also includes the steamy wedding night scene.
Eventually, Claire confessed about her real background and to her surprise, Jamie believed her even after admitting he didn’t understand.
He sent her off back to the stones and she returned back to the future to her husband in 1948.
After hearing her stories, Frank refused to believe his wife and was convinced she had made the story up to cope with the potential trauma she may have experienced.
Claire had also returned pregnant with Jamie’s baby, so Frank agreed to keep the father’s true identity a secret and raised the child as his own.
In season three, the couple had a major argument which resulted in Frank storming out of the house and on his drive he suffered a fatal car crash.
Claire took this opportunity to teach her daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) about the stones and her real father, before travelling through them to look for Jamie.
As Brianna decided to stay behind to complete her studies, Claire and Jamie had an emotional reunion and their love for each other was still there – even though 20 years had passed.
All episodes of Outlander are available to stream on Starz.
