Piers Morgan’s biggest bust-ups – Ant and Dec Twitter war to Ewan McGregor beef
Piers Morgan is never one to shy away from stirring up some controversy.
The former Good Morning Britain star shockingly stepped away from his role as host earlier this month after he received an onslaught of criticism following comments he made about Meghan Markle’s bombshell Oprah interview.
The 55-year-old star has had a long and varied history of causing offence, getting into scraps with celebrity guests, and being called out on his controversial opinions.
Here, Daily Star takes a look back at some of Piers Morgan’s most explosive bust-ups and problematic moments throughout his six-year stint on Good Morning Britain as he celebrates his 56th birthday.
Piers vs Alex Beresford and Meghan Markle
At the top of the Piers' list is his supposed crusade against the Duchess of Sussex.
The media pundit once claimed to have a friendship with the former actress, but then accused her of "snubbing him" the minute she tied the knot with Prince Harry.
Piers has made his feelings towards Meghan crystal clear, regularly slamming the royal at every given opportunity, leading fans to believe he’s "bitter" over the fact she cut him off when she married into the Royal family.
The motormouth broadcaster sensationally quit Good Morning Britain after ITV star Alex Beresford called Piers out on his controversial comments about Meghan.
These had included casting doubt on the veracity of a number of claims made during her interview with Oprah Winfrey, including that she had struggled with suicidal thoughts.
Piers’ brutal rant about the Duchess of Sussex racked up an eye-watering 57,121 Ofcom complaints – making it the most complained about show ever.
Despite the fact fans claim he’s been "cancelled", following his departure from the ITV show, Piers insisted that he stood by his words about Meghan when he said: “I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen.
"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it.”
Piers found himself embroiled in a social media spat with Caitlyn Jenner's rumoured partner Sophia Hutchins, after a Good Morning Britain interview went horribly wrong.
Things took a turn for the worst when the host tried to question Sophia on the nature of her relationship with the I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star.
Without any hesitation, in the first few seconds of the bombshell interview, Piers brazenly asked Hutchins if she was in a sexual relationship with Caitlyn when he quipped: "So no hanky panky then? Just friends?"
Sophia later took to Instagram to slam the controversial broadcaster.
"Good Morning Britain, having Piers Morgan is your biggest mistake,” she fumed.
“What a joke of a journalist he is. What a pathetic line of questioning he had for me this morning. Totally not cool. I went on to support Caitlyn on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, not deal with bull**** questions from some jack*** like Piers Morgan.
"Piers, neither of us will ever do your show again. You’ve shown your true colours yet again. How disappointing."
Piers quickly responded in retaliation on Good Morning Britain when he savagely said: "I've never heard of you, didn't know who you were. You can't ban me because after you were rude yourself, I’d already taken the decision to ban you. You will never, ever again be interviewed by me.
"And when you call me a jack*** I don’t care because I don’t know who you are."
Piers vs Ant and Dec
Piers has never shied away from using his huge celebrity status and massive following as leverage in his feuds.
In 2019, the Good Morning Britain host got caught up in a furious Twitter feud with I’m A Celebrity presenters, Ant and Dec.
Piers was said to be left "raging" at a comment Ant made during I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! when he made a joke at his expense on the opening episode.
Introducing Kate Garraway on the show, Dec said she was "preparing to face the most harrowing ordeal of her entire life", to which Ant replied: "But before she goes back to work with Piers Morgan, she's got three weeks in the jungle".
The next morning, Piers took out his frustrations live on Good Morning Britain when he mocked and mimicked the famous duo, labelling them "pathetic".
In retaliation, Ant and Dec quote-tweeted a news story about Piers’ reaction from their joint account.
The pair called him a "snowflake" – a person who has an inflated sense of uniqueness and an unwarranted sense of entitlement and a term often used by Piers.
Of course, he hit back on Twitter when he fumed: "At least I have my own Twitter account and don't have to share one with my mate."
Fans were beyond shocked to see three of the biggest stars on British TV at war, but thankfully, Piers and the famous duo have long put their spat behind them.
Piers clashed with rapper Dizzee Rascal, who was challenged to articulate an answer on what Black Lives Matters meant.
Rascal replied: "What makes you think I know?"
And Morgan pushed: “I don’t know, because you’re a black man!”
The rapper hit back: “You know what, I watch you on telly and you never let no-one speak. I’m not the one, you’re not going to do this to me, mate.”
Following the awkward interview, fans flocked to Twitter to slam Piers, claiming that he was being insensitive to the rapper amid the BLM movement.
Piers was once again slammed by viewers for his brutal interview with Health Secretary Matt Hancock in November 2020.
Hancock famously snubbed the show for 201 days because of Morgan’s controversial comments made towards him.
The Secretary of State for Health was left squirming when the host called for him to resign following the government’s handling of thecoronaviruspandemic.
Telly regulator Ofcom received an onslaught of complaints about Piers’ aggressive line of questioning and a charge sheet of supposed failures from Hancock and his colleagues during the Covid-19 crisis.
Piers raged: "Given that we now have over 50,000 deaths in this country, which is the worst death toll in Europe, why are you still Health Secretary? Why haven't you handed in your resignation?"
After Piers famously made comments about the international Women's March in 2017, Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor refused to turn up for his Good Morning Britain interview.
The actor failed to notify Piers or Susanna about his no-show, prompting the two to speculate about where their guest might be during their live broadcast.
But before the show ended, Ewan tweeted Piers to explain his absence.
BBC bosses thrilled as Morning Live thrashes ITV rival Lorraine in ratings battle
"Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn't realise Piers Morgan was host. Won't go on with him after his comments about Women's March," Ewan wrote.
Piers read the tweet aloud and told viewers that it doesn't matter what Ewan thinks because he's "just an actor".
He then replied to the star on Twitter, posting: "Sorry to hear that – you should be big enough to allow people different political opinions. You're just an actor after all."
Piers later branded Ewan a "coward" and said he wanted to "shove his [NTA] award where the sun don't shine".
