After a jaw-dropping season finale, fans can rejoice as Power Book II will finally return to Starz for its long-awaited second season. With the fate of Tariq St Patrick’s (played by Michael Rainey Jr) future hanging in the balance, the actor spoke Express.co.uk to find out if the next chapter could see the return of old faces.

“He may not be with us anymore, but Ghost’s never die,” Michael responded when asked about the potential return of his on-screen father, James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (Omari Hardwick).

Power fans will remember in the sixth and final episode of the crime thriller when Tariq fatally shot his father at his club, Truth.

The scene sent shockwaves through its viewers as he was spotted by his father’s best friend Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora).

However, when it comes to season two of Power Book II, Michael warned: “You’re gonna see the true definition of that line, that’s going to unfold this season.”

He continued: “I hope that they take away how crazy stuff is and how heavy we coming, we coming in hot so I just hope everyone is ready”.

The last time viewers saw Tariq, he was balancing his studies, while selling drugs on campus.

He did so to afford Defense Attorney Davis MacLean (Method Man), to get his mother Tasha St Patrick (Naturi Naughton) out of prison – who took the fall for James’ murder.

When this was a success, she went into witness protection, but in true Power form, another part of his life was spiralling – his education.

This led to Tariq murdering his professor, Jabari Reynolds (Justin Marcel McManus) after he developed an unhealthy obsession with the teenager.

Speaking on the sudden changes, Michael confirmed: “The power Universe is crazy, one second it could be the calmest thing in the world and boom snap of the finger everything changes.”

With fans concerned about Tariq fate after yet another murder, the actor revealed: “The beginning of the season is just insane.”

He continued: “It’s funny because, at the beginning of first of the two seasons, of both seasons, he’s coming off murdering somebody.”

However, there may be some dark waters ahead for him as Tariq disclosed: “It’s a lot, that death is weighing on him as well.”

The actor added: “He committed that murder because he had to do what he had to do.”

Despite this viewers could see the teenager continue to follow in his father’s footsteps as the season continues.

“You know Tariq, he’s like Ghost, he always finds a way to handle what he has to handle,” Michael answered when quizzed on what he’d do.

In addition, Michael states: “He’s young, figuring everything out and I think he’s doing a pretty good job. In fact, growing up pretty fast he’s handling things pretty well.”

Showrunner and creator Courtney Kemp also spoke about the similarities between Tariq and Ghost to Entertainment Weekly: “There are going to be moments and decisions he makes, especially in season 2, that are the opposite of what Ghost would do.”

She disclosed: “There are going to be moments and decisions where he does exactly what his father would have done. And there are going to be moments when he looks at himself in the mirror and he doesn’t like what he sees.”

Power Book II: Ghost season two premieres Sunday November 21 on STARZPLAY.
