Many Netflix viewers who tuned in to watch Harry & Meghan on Thursday are convinced the Duke of Sussex took a jibe at his brother Prince William marrying Kate Middleton in episode one. It comes after fans feared Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton would be pitted against each other in the series and they took to social media when Prince Harry discussed the “temptation to marry someone who would fit the mould”.

In the first episode of the six-part documentary, Harry told the cameras: “For so many people in the family, especially the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who you are perhaps destined to be with.

“The difference between making decisions with your head, or your heart.

“And my mum made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart. And I am my mother’s son.”

An array of Netflix viewers believed Harry’s remark was a “cruel” dig toward Kate and they took to Twitter to share their opinions.

Annie fumed: “‘Fit the mould’, that was a clear and b****y dig at Kate and William.” (sic)

TK penned: “’Fit the mould’” – was that a dig at Kate? #HarryandMeghanNetflix.”

Meanwhile, GB News broadcaster Dan Wootton shared: “Obvious and very cruel dig at William and Kate by Harry…’For so many people in the family, especially the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who you are perhaps destined to be with’. #HarryandMeghanNetflix.”

Richard Lloyd added: “A very cruel dig. Totally unfair. William and Kate seem well suited and happy.” (sic)

However, other viewers felt the comment Harry made was aimed at his parents King Charles III and the late Princess Diana.

Latoya Newell wrote: “That statement had nothing to do with William and Kate and you people know that but you want to act stupid. Charles and Diana were not destined to be together, Charles married who [fitted] the Royal Family mould.”

JD claimed: “Anyone can see how in love William and Kate are. Harry’s probably having a dig at Charles for marrying Diana while he was in love with Camilla. The marriage to Diana was a marriage of convenience, to produce the next heir to the throne.”

Buckingham Palace has not released a statement about the Netflix series.

The Prince and Princess of Wales met when they were studying at St. Andrews University in Scotland.

It has been widely reported Kate caught William’s eye when she took part in a university fashion show.

The couple went on to marry in 2011 and share three children together, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Elsewhere in the documentary, Harry was asked if he remembered when he realised his family was different.

The father-of-two explained: “No, I think it’s just, I just think it’s gradual.

“I mean, there’s no point that we’re all sitting down in the classroom and my grandmother [Queen Elizabeth II] stands there with a long stick, glasses on her nose and goes, ‘Right. So this is what it means to be in the royal family.’ That doesn’t happen.”

The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan are available to watch on Netflix and the second three will be released on December 15.
