Prince William and Kate take centre stage in The Crown season 6

The Crown: Netflix tease fifth season in tense trailer

The Crown season 6 has treated fans to a first look at the final season with a young Prince William and Kate Middleton at the forefront for the first time.

In the new photos, the now Prince and Princess of Wales – and heirs apparant to the throne – are seen in the throws of the beginning of their relationship.

First meeting at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland in 2001, the pair soon struck up a romance that would see make-ups and break-ups before they eventually got married in 2011.

Three new photos mark the start of their whirlwind romance, with acting newcomers Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy taking on the prestigious roles of the future King and Queen of Britain.

In one photo, the pair are seen walking hand-in-hand on the university grounds, while a second and third show them separately while studying.

According to Netflix, in the upcoming episodes we’ll see William “try to live as normal a life as he can” knowing what the future holds for him.

There will be two actors portraying William in the upcoming final series, as the show pushes through almost a decade of Royal life.

It’s believed the show will begin with the devastating 1997 car crash that killed Princess Diana (played on the show by Elizabeth Debicki).

The scenes have already been widely condemned by fans of the show and Princess Diana, with many deeming it “unneccesary” for them to show the mangled car wreck that killed her.

King Charles’s marriage to Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005 has also been confirmed to be a scene.

It’s currently unknown at what point in history the show will stop or how it will wind down.

The Crown season six has been definitively marked as the show’s last, so will be stopping well before the deaths of Prince Philip’s death in 2021, Queen Elizabeth’s death in 2022, and King Charles’s upcoming coronation as he assumes the throne.

William – now officially titled the Prince of Wales – is now next in line to the throne.

Kate, now formally titled Princess of Wales and Duchess of Cambridge, will be his Queen.

The couple share three children together who themselves will follow the line of succession – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Season six is yet to be given a release date, but is expected to arrive at the end of 2023.

The Crown is available on Netflix.
