A Strictly Come Dancing star has reportedly been struck down with Covid just days before the 2021 series launch.

The professional dancer is thought to have already been paired with a celebrity partner but now the plans for the show are up in the air following the positive result.

The BBC has confirmed to the paper that a professional had tested positive.

A source told The Sun: "This is proving to be a nightmare for producers, just as they prepare to bring back Strictly for its first full series since the pandemic."

All of the contestants have been assigned a professional dancer after the celebrities filmed the coupling ceremony last week which is set to air this Saturday.

But after the Covid test came back positive so early on in the competition, the celebrity partnered up with the poorly professional dancer may be reassigned to another partner.

This is in order to allow the contestant enough time to train and rehearse for the live performance on September 25.

But producers are still anxiously awaiting to see if any of the other celebrities and dancers have also contracted the virus which could set the show back by weeks.

This comes after Strictly Come Dancing boss Sarah James revealed how the contestants may not need to leave the show if the contract the virus due to the new short isolation period.

Sarah stressed: "Keeping everybody safe and keeping the show going is obviously our priority.

"We will have a limited audience again like last year, so we will have some audience, which is nice, but it won't be a full audience sadly.
