Teen Mom Amber Portwood's ex Gary Shirley shares update after his carpal tunnel surgery & admits he was ‘petrified'

TEEN Mom OG star Gary Shirley admitted he was “petrified” going into his carpal tunnel surgery but revealed he’s recovering well.

He underwent the operation on Friday, and Amber Portwood praised her ex’s current partner, wife Kristina, for being such a “great nurse” to him.

After a day of recovery, Gary shared a video on his Instagram on Saturday to update fans on how he’s been doing since the procedure.

He began by thanking fans for their “prayers and encouragement.”

“One day later after my surgery, and I’m all bundled up,” the Teen Mom OG star said while showing off the wrappings around both of his hands and wrists.

Gary shared: “I do have some bruising here, but I think it does kind of run all the way through [from wrist to fingers].”

He continued: “They went under [the wrist], did whatever cutting they had to do, sewed me up. It’s a really small incision. Range of motion, I’m able to move my hands.”

While he said his “thumbs hurt pretty bad” at first, now they’re feeling much better and that pain has “subsided.”

The bruising around his wrists are a “little itchy,” as well.

He shared that he’s been doing a lot of stretching to get back a good range of motion and has been using a stress ball to help, though he’s trying not to overuse it because it’s “painful.”

“Peas work the best for the ice pack,” Gary added. “I was able to sleep really good [after taking some pain medication].

He said: “I was kinda scared that was gonna be an issue. I just laid on my side and propped my hands up on a pillow in the same direction, and that pretty much did the job.”

Amber’s ex ended the video by admitting that he was “petrified and scared” ahead of the procedure, which is why he really “appreciated” all of the “support” from fans.

MAJOR SURGERY

Gary revealed he was having surgery shortly before the procedure.

He shared the news with fans in a video featuring daughter Emilee on Thursday.

Gary revealed he suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome – a common condition that causes pain, numbness and tingling in the hands and arm.

The father of two said he's having bilateral carpal tunnel surgery, which means both of his wrists will be operated on in one session of general anesthesia.

"I'm hoping they can heal up at the same time and that way I can use my hands faster," the MTV star told his fans at the time.

"I don't have a lot of strength in my hands sometimes and sometimes I wake up and they're numb."

Gary said Kristina would be driving him to the hospital and a family member would look after Emilee while they were at the hospital.

'PRAYING FOR YOU'

His ex Amber, with whom he shares daughter Leah, sent her support, commenting: "Praying for you buddy! No worries you're strong you got this!"

On Friday, Gary's wife Kristina posted a series of photos from inside the hospital, as well as a few post-procedure pics.

The procedure went well and according to plan, her post revealed.

She shared in the caption: "Today @itsgarytime had his bilateral endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery.

"His surgery went as planned thankfully. He was entertainment for the Doctors, Nurses and staff to say the least.

"He's back home now and resting. I feel like I've got a baby boy to take care of and nurse back to health."

Amber commented on her post, too, writing: "You sure do @Kristina_shirley3 thank you for my goofy pic earlier lol but he has a great nurse to take care of him and some little helpers too."
