This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby started the show on Monday morning by unveiling the Christmas decorations which had been put up in the studio over the weekend. However, some viewers of the ITV show were left less than impressed as many felt it was “too early” for Christmas decorations and even branded the revamp as “over the top”.

Welcoming viewers to the show, Phillip explained: “Usually before the show, we spend a little bit of time inside the studio to have a bit of a look round.

“This morning, we have actually not been allowed in, we’ve been banned,” he added as Holly continued: “All our Christmas decorations are up, but like Christmas morning, everything inside is a bit of a surprise.

“The whole studio has been wrapped up to stop us going inside,” she went on with Phillip continuing: “We have been desperate to get in all morning, are you ready?”

Phillip and Holly then began to unveil the studio and were shocked to find the studio had been transformed into a cosy winter wonderland.

“Oh, my god! It’s Christmas. Oh, my god, how many trees?” Holly exclaimed in shock.

Phil answered: “There are 22! 22 Christmas trees more than we have ever had before.”

The pair then spotted the electronic polar bear in the middle of the studio.

Reading the information about what was in the studio, Phillip informed Holly: “There is actually, we’ve got over 500 pinecones from our own forest in here.”

Holly continued: “Let’s go over here, we have all these beautiful vintage books, 150 vintage books, two chimney breasts complete with mantles.

“48 garlands dressing the top and the side of the studio,” Phillip informed, to which Holly exclaimed: “I can’t take it all in, everywhere you look, there is like, baubles.

“We’ve got our sofa here, oh my god, we’ve got a new rug! That’s rather smart, look at the doors – how gorgeous are they?”

However, a number of viewers felt they had overdone the decorations and reminded the ITV hosts it is still November.

@realnaeaird wrote: “Gratuitous overkill with the Christmas decorations, sorry it’s just not necessary @ITV #ThisMorning.”

@MrsTsixtysix commented: “#thismorning someone tell them it’s still November.”

@TamsinFife added: “22 Christmas trees is over the top, I hope 21 are going to be donated to hospitals#, children’s or old people’s homes across the country #ThisMorning.”

However, some viewers were in full support of their Christmas decorations and even revealed they had already had their decorations up too.

@HannahHaz wrote: “I had my decorations up last weekend! After the rubbish Christmas we had last year, I am milking it this year!”

@ErinBowBow argued: “Why can’t people just keep their negative opinions to themselves? If they want to put the decorations up, then let them. It looks wonderful and so Christmassy #ThisMorning.”

@EllieSan544 said: “Holly and Phil are the cutest people ever getting excited over their Christmas decorations. I think I would, too, if there was a moving polar bear in my house! #thismorning,”

Holly and Phillip were also joined by Leona Lewis, who performed a live rendition of her Christmas hit One More Sleep.

Dressed all in white and accompanied by her backup singers, Leona brought the Christmas magic to the studio alongside their wonderland of decorations.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
