TV news anchor Jenny Lenzini dies aged 26 following a motorbike crash
Jenny Lenzini has died aged 26, it has been reported.
The NBC2 and ABC7 news reporter is said to have passed away after a motorbike she was riding on crashed into a tree.
Jenny's workplace confirmed that the news anchor had died on Saturday, with Waterman Broadcasting being "saddened" by the shattering news.
The broadcasting company announced that while riding on the back of the motorbike, the driver lost control and hit a tree on Plantation Boulevard and Panacea Boulevard in Florida.
The driver died on the scene while Jenny was rushed to Sarasota hospital via air ambulance, later dying from the injuries she sustained.
She had started her career with the network in July 2020 and covered stories from the recent US Presidential Election, to interviewing contestants on USA Ninja Warrier.
During her work at NBC2 and ABC7, the blonde covered stories in the Charlotte County and Lee County areas, with many viewers thanking her for her work.
Jenny kickstarted her career as a weekend news anchor at KTIV in Sioux City, Iowa – also working as a multimedia journalist for the station.
KTIV Vice President Bridget Breen paid tribute to her, saying: "Jenny was a bright light, full of heart, dedication, a rising star in the broadcast industry with an infectious smile. She was authentic, humble and always kind."
WBBH-TV said: "She idolized Diane Sawyer growing up and loved being around people."
NBC2's Assistant News Director Tim Klutsarits penned: "24+ hours later and I still don't have words. Awful and tragic are words that keep banging around my head. For Jenny and the Lenzini family, all I have is sorrow. Just awful."
Since the news of her death, viewers have taken to social media to pay tribute to the journalist, with one saying: "This is so tragic. Keeping Jenny Lenzini’s family and everyone at @NBC2 in my prayers."
While a second added: "RIP @JennyLenzini you will definitely be missed."
"Saddened to share news of the death of UI journalism @UIjournalism alumna Jenny Lenzini," tweeted a third.
Jenny, who grew up in Crystal Lake, Chicago, is survived by five siblings.
