TV fans couldn’t stop watching the latest crime sensation on Netflix, which aired back all ten episodes back in May. Despite offering an exciting, sun-soaked murder mystery on the Ibiza coastline, some critical viewers have been taking apart some glaring issues with the first season’s biggest reveal.
The new TV thriller arrived from the mind of Money Heist’s creator Álex Pina and threw its mixed cast of Spanish and English actors headfirst into a chaotic murder mystery.
Season one followed Zoe Collins (played by Laura Haddock), a librarian who is bored of her ordinary life in Manchester.
When the body of her missing brother Axel (Tom Rhys Harries) is unearthed in the Almería desert she travels to Ibiza looking for answers when the Spanish police are unable to investigate.
Zoe soon discovers her brother’s former life of drugs, sex and parties is waiting for her and she soon learns some uncomfortable truths about Axel’s old life as a DJ.

She also bumps into his old friends Anna (Angela Griffin) and Marcus (Danny Mays) as well as drawing the eye of local crime family the Calafats.
From the beginning, Zoe suspects Anna and Marcus know more about her brother’s death than they’re letting on and are eventually revealed to be the culprits behind his murder.
The first season’s biggest twist arrived when it flashed back to Axel’s attempt to betray the gang by burning their share of the money.
Anna and Marcus decide to take their revenge and make several attempts to take him out, including running him over and stabbing him with a screwdriver.
Fuelled by substances, Anna and Axel also have a violent confrontation in a hotel swimming pool during which Axel comes dangerously close to drowning.
However, after finishing season one, some fans were confused why Anna didn’t take the opportunity to take out Axel then and there if she wanted him dead anyway.
One fan took to Reddit to suggest how the murder of Axel should have been much cleaner.
Redditor XStiroX said: “I think Anna’s motive was good though, Axel’s just turned her down and ‘robbed’ her of her ‘hard-earned’ money.

“She fears losing Marcus, and she’s high off her mind on multiple drugs. I mean that’s a pretty good cocktail of reasons why you’d kill someone.”
Upon finishing the first instalment, many fans agreed the reveal made sense but the multiple methods of taking out Axel were almost comically messy.
This fan explained how Anna could have made things a lot simpler for herself and Marcus if she had simply left him to drown in the pool.
They continued: “Why didn’t she just leave him dead in the pool after she killed him?”

“Even if she hadn’t jumped into the pool he probably still would have choked and died all the same… now THAT would be the perfect crime, cause it wouldn’t even be reported as one.”
Of course, if Anna had chosen to leave Axel to drown the plot of White Lines wouldn’t have unfolded the way it did.
Season one concluded with Marcus striking a new deal with the Calafats, and fans are hoping the complex plotlines can be streamlined if the series returns.
White Lines season one is available to stream on Netflix.
