Another mystery monolith pops up in UK as pillar appears in flooded Oxford park
ANOTHER mystery monolith has appeared in a British park – baffling New Year’s Day walkers.
The strange pillar appeared overnight in Oatlands Park, West Oxford.
Early morning walkers spotted the monolith and DJ Dominic Utton said: “It definitely wasn’t there on New Year’s Eve so it must have arrived overnight.
“It’s out in the middle of the flooded field, too far and too deep to get to with wellies, so whoever did it must have had a boat.
“From what you can see from dry land it’s about six foot tall out of the water – so maybe nine feet altogether. It’s a tall rectangle shape, and silver-ish, like it’s made of aluminium.
“Whatever it is, and whoever did it, it’s very cool. Just how they did it is amazing in itself – out in the middle of a flooded field, in the dark and freezing cold, on New Year’s Eve of all nights."
The appearance of the monolith is not a new thing though as the end of 2020 saw them popping up all over the world from the UK to America.
With monoliths appearing in the Isle of Wight, Utah desert in the USA, Romania, California, Pennsylvania, Texas and Colombia,
However, one of the most recent ones was spotted in Salisbury carrying a new year message.
The mirrored pillar stood at 8 feet and was seen on Laverstock Downs near Salisbury, Wilts.
Monoliths like these have been popping up in the dead of night with those who report their sightings saying the monolith was not there the previous day.
Jenny Istead, who was walking her dogs at 7am, said: “It was an unusual morning.
"I walk my dogs very early, we go up the downs at about 7 o’clock so it’s just starting to get light. We were making our way up the hill and I thought ‘gosh, what on earth is that?’.
“Right up by the top by the trees was this gorgeous monolith. It’s lovely. It was covered in frost but we just rubbed away a little bit and it’s got a mirrored surface to it and a pyramid at the top.
"It looks beautifully made – it is a real work of art.”
Jenny says she walks on Laverstock Downs every morning and that the monolith was not there yesterday.
