Boulder RTD station bathrooms shut down due to meth contamination

Traces of methamphetamine have been detected in the bathrooms and in a hallway at the downtown Boulder RTD station, forcing a closure of the areas as a safety precaution.

Recent reports of a “strong odor” coming from the restroom area at the station, 1800 14th St., prompted an investigation and testing, which confirmed levels of meth or “similar substances exceeding Centers for Disease Control and Prevention limits,” according to an RTD news release.

“For the safety of its customers and employees, the agency has closed the restrooms and adjacent hallway and they will remain closed and inaccessible until remediation can be performed,” RTD said in a news release. “Additional areas may be closed if further testing reveals potentially harmful levels of contaminants.”

The Boulder Public Library closed on Dec. 20 because of methamphetamine contamination. The library began gradually reopening last week after remediation efforts. A contractor determined the highest levels of contamination at the library were in public restrooms.
