Bride whose fiance died hours before big day wears wedding dress to his funeral

A bride-to-be whose fiancé died in a car crash hours before their wedding has revealed she wore her wedding dress to his funeral.

Myles ‘Miley’ Harty, 20, was in the front passenger seat of a car which smashed into a pole on a narrow country lane in County Limerick, Ireland, at around 1am on Saturday.

He died instantly, while an unnamed teenager suspected of being the driver was reportedly arrested on suspicion of committing a driving offence and released without charge.

A third man, who was sat in the back of the Skoda hatchback, suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Myles’ sweetheart, Kate Quilligan said in a social media post she wore the dress so they could say goodbye ‘one last time’ as husband and wife.

‘Hardest day of my life today, but I know you’re with me every step of the way,’ she wrote, according to the Irish Mirror.

‘I just really hope you know what I thought of you.’

A video shows Kate arriving at Myles’ house with a wedding bouquet, with her father saying to the camera: ‘Myles this is all Kate wanted her whole life, Miley Harty.

‘She got dressed and she is going into you one last time. Miley, I will never forget you, you are the boss.’

After paying tribute to Myles, the priest holding the funeral at St Mary’s Church, in his home town of Askeaton, issued a plea for caution from other young drivers.

He said: ‘I want to make an appeal to our young people, because accidents are avoidable; cars a wonderful gift, a great amenity, but they are also a lethal weapon.

‘And so, the plea, that I’m sure many of us here would make, is to be aware of the danger to yourself and others when you drive a car — you are all too important to us to lose you.’

Dozens of tributes were left on social media for Myles, who was a popular member of the traveller community.

One comment read: ‘Every girl waits for that day their whole life.

‘Can you imagine how excited you would be and then for it to be all taken away just like that?’

Another said: ‘Can’t believe it. Rest in peace Miley. God be with you my friend. Nicest boy you could have met.

‘Just one day before his wedding. Condolence to his family at this awful sad time.’

Police have opened an investigation into the fatal crash, and have asked any witnesses, or anyone with relevant dash-cam footage, to come forward.
