Chicken discovered living in poo and feather-strewn bathroom during drugs raid
Police officers found a chicken living in a bathroom during a drugs raid – in conditions they joked "fell fowl of acceptable standards".
They found the poor bird perched on the bathtub as they searched the property.
Avon and Somerset Police seized it and said it has now been re-homed in a sanctuary, BristolLive reports.
Police said its owner – who was being held as part of drugs enforcement action – was keeping it as a pet.
Photos from the house in Bristol show the room covered in chicken poo and feathers.
Toiletries had also fallen in the bathtub.
Avon and Somerset Police said on Facebook: "Police carrying out a drugs search at an address in Bristol last week came to the aid of a chicken after finding it living in conditions that fell fowl [sic] of acceptable standards.
"Officers discovered the animal in the bathroom where it was being kept as a pet by its owner, who was detained as part of drugs enforcement action.
"Local beat sergeant PS Tooth felt a bathtub didn’t amount to free-range living and was not much of a 'home sweet home'.
"The chicken was seized and brought to the local police station."
Officers added: "It has now been re-homed in a chicken sanctuary for poorly-treated chickens."
The RSPCA charity says if keeping chickens, your house should be "warm, dry and well-ventilated" and be "cleaned frequently and disinfected to remove parasites".
There should be "enough space for chickens to exercise, stretch their wings and carry out normal behaviours".
