Child killer Mairead Philpott tucked into a McDonald’s meal at her bail hostel to celebrate her 40th –and first – birthday since being released.

Philpott shed “crocodile tears” back in 2012 over the death of her six kids who died in a fire at the family home in Derby.

Jade, ten, John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, and five-year-old Jayden all died, with Mairead’s son Duwayne, 13, from a previous relationship, succumbing to his injuries three days later.

The sick mum was jailed along with husband Mick Philpott, who is not due for parole until at least 2027, but Mairead is currently living in a bail hostel.

To celebrate her 40th, Mairead ate a £5.19 fast food meal of a McChicken sandwich and fries.

A source reportedly told the Sun Mairead "really enjoyed the Maccies because Mick had controlled the money" in their relationship.

The source said: "She said she really enjoyed her Maccies because Mick had controlled the money.

"He would only let her have chips if they had a takeaway."

Mairead also reportedly had a pink cake at the house with a "huge chocolate button on top and yellow icing round the outside."

The 40-year-old will soon be released from her temporary accommodation where she will be able to re-start her life.

An insider said: "She’s desperate to slip back into the community and start her life over.

"She’s saying she should be allowed to leave the hostel within weeks."

Mairead's husband reportedly dreamt up the arson plot to frame an ex-girlfriend for the fire as he "rescued" the children.

The couple also believed the blaze would help them to land a bigger council house.
