Chinese politicians threaten nuclear strike against Japan in Taiwan standoff
Officials from China’s ruling Communist Party have issued a dire threat to "continuously use nuclear bombs" against Japan if there’s any interference with a future Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
The municipal committee of Baoji, a major city in the province of Shaanxi province, posted a video to China social media network Xigua entitled: ”If Japan intervenes in military affairs to reunify Taiwan, I must recommend the exceptional theory of nuclear strikes on Japan,"earlier today.
The “exceptional theory” is a reference to China’s policy that nuclear weapons would not be used in a first strike – except in “exceptional” cases.
The threat is apparently a response to a statement from Japan's deputy prime minister Taro Aso earlier this month, where he vowed to defend Taiwan in China invaded.
The Communist Party video says: “When we liberate Taiwan, if Japan dares to intervene by force, even if it only deploys one soldier, one plane and one ship, we will not only return reciprocal fire but also start a full-scale war against Japan.
“We will use nuclear bombs first.
“We will use nuclear bombs continuously until Japan declares unconditional surrender for the second time.
“What we want to target is Japan’s ability to endure a war. As long as Japan realises that it cannot afford to pay the price of war it will not dare to rashly send troops to the Taiwan strait.”
The clip has now been deleted, although not before it collected over two million views.

Human rights activist Jennifer Zeng made a copy of the video with English subtitles and uploaded it to Twitter.
The video warns that since “no first strike” police in 1964, the international situation has changed dramatically.
It states: “Our country is in the midst of a major change that has not been seen in a century and all political policies, tactics and strategies must be adjusted and changed in order to protect the peaceful rise of our country.
“If Japan goes to war with China for a third time, the Chinese people will take revenge on the old and new scores.
“Japan is the only country in the world that has been hit by atomic bombs and has a deep memory of the atomic bombs from the government down to the people.
“It is exactly because Japan has such a unique feeling that nuclear deterrence against Japan will get twice the result with half the effort.”
The video concludes by pledging to punish Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, and Deputy Prime Minister Aso Taro – and to retake the Diaoyu and Ryukyu islands.
The CCP authority repost comes just weeks after Chinese president Xi Jinping warned foreign nations will “get their heads bashed bloody” if they attempt to interfere with China.”
Beijing regards Taiwan as rightfully part of its own territory and has threatened to use military action to reunite the island with the mainland.
Taiwan has long been seen as a potential flashpoint for a clash between China and America. Earlier this week, Chinese government spokesman Wu Qian warned the US not to attempt to fly military aircraft near Taiwan, saying: "Any foreign ships or planes trespassing into Chinese airspace will trigger serious consequences.”
